# Multilingual file sharing: why StrongFolder speaks 52 languages

> StrongFolder's Chrome extension is a multilingual file sharing tool: its interface is available in 52 languages and starts in the language of your Chrome. That matters because files often travel between countries — families abroad, freelancers and clients — and the recipient installs nothing: a link opened in any browser is enough.

The StrongFolder — File Share extension for Chrome speaks 52
languages. That number is not a vanity metric. Multilingual file sharing matters more than
it seems, because a file transfer is one of the few things in software that almost always
involves two people — and very often those two people live in different countries.

## Why does multilingual file sharing matter?

Think about who sends large files across borders:

- **Families abroad.** A son working in another country sends his parents the video of their
grandchild's first school concert. A daughter shares a folder of scanned family photos
with relatives who stayed at home.
- **Freelancers and clients.** A video editor in one country delivers a finished cut to an
agency in another. A translator returns a folder of layouts, a developer hands over a
build, a photographer delivers a shoot to a client who has never heard of the tool.
- **Teams spread over time zones.** A studio sends a project folder to a consultant who
reads English well enough for e-mail but would rather not decode technical buttons in a
  second language.

In each case, one person picks the tool and the other person simply has to cope with it. A
tool that feels foreign gets abandoned for whatever people already know — even if that means
compressed videos, zip files or a size limit.

## Why does language matter more for P2P than for cloud storage?

Because a direct transfer depends on the sender understanding one instruction.
The sender's browser tab must stay open and online until the recipient finishes downloading — files come from the sender's device, not from a server.

If someone misreads that message — or skips it because it's in a language they don't
read — they close the tab, and the transfer stops halfway. With a cloud service, a confused
user can still finish an upload and go away. With P2P, the most important sentence on the
screen has to be understood. So for us localisation is not decoration; it is part of the
transfer working at all.

The same goes for **Copy Link** and **Stop Sharing**. Small labels, but each one decides
whether a 40 GB transfer succeeds on the first try.

## Which languages does the extension support?

Fifty-two, so that the tool reaches people well beyond the usual handful of languages.
Alongside English and most European languages, including Ukrainian, Polish and Slovak, the
list includes:

- **right-to-left languages** — Arabic, Hebrew and Persian;
- **languages of India** — Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and
  Malayalam;
- **regional variants** — Spanish for Spain and for Latin America, Portuguese for Brazil and
  for Portugal, Simplified and Traditional Chinese;
- **languages that software often skips** — Swahili, Amharic and Filipino.

You don't have to set anything up. The extension starts in the language of your Chrome
interface and falls back to English if your language isn't on the list. If you prefer a
different language — say, your Chrome is in English but you'd rather work in your native
language — switch it in the extension's menu; it remembers your choice.

If a translation in your language reads awkwardly, please tell us at
[info@strongfolder.com](mailto:info@strongfolder.com). Native speakers notice things that no review
process catches, and we fix them.

## Does the recipient need to install anything?

No — and this is the part I care about most. The extension is for the sender. The recipient
gets a link (or scans a QR code) and opens it in a browser. No extension, no app, no account.

That matters for the cross-border cases above. You can't ask your parents to install a tool,
and you shouldn't ask a client to create an account just to receive their own project.
With StrongFolder they don't have to:

- the files go directly from your browser to theirs; Files are never uploaded to or stored on a StrongFolder server.
- Folders are sent as folders: subfolders and file names are kept, nothing is zipped.
- No size limit set by StrongFolder. The practical limits are free disk space on the recipient's device, connection speed, and how long both devices stay online.

One practical note for the recipient: Saving a whole folder with its structure uses the File System Access API: Chrome, Edge, Opera and other Chromium browsers on a computer. Other browsers can download the files one by one or as a ZIP.

## What about this help center?

English is the master version: every guide is written in English first and then translated.
The help center already speaks several languages — pick yours with the language switcher at
the top of the page — and more are coming. The extension itself works in all
52 languages today.

## How do I get it?

Add StrongFolder from the Chrome Web Store, pin it next to the address bar, and click it
whenever you need to send something. It works in Chrome and most Chromium browsers that
accept Chrome Web Store extensions. Installation steps, permissions and a comparison with the
web app are on the [Chrome extension page](https://help.strongfolder.com/en/chrome-extension/).

Prefer not to install anything? The [web app](https://strongfolder.com) does the same transfer in any
modern browser. Either way, the person on the other side — in whatever country and whatever
language — needs only the link.

## FAQ

### How does the extension choose its language?

It starts in the language of your Chrome interface, if that is one of the 52 languages, and falls back to English otherwise. You can switch the language in the extension's menu, and it remembers your choice.

### Does the recipient need the extension or an account?

No. The recipient opens the link in a browser. No account needed to send or receive. Signing in with Google is optional and keeps a list of your transfers. To save a whole folder with its structure, they need Chrome, Edge or Opera on a computer.

### Is the help center available in other languages?

Yes. English is the master version, and the help center is translated into more and more languages — use the language switcher at the top of the page.

### Is the extension free?

Yes. StrongFolder is free. There are no paid plans at the moment — every feature is available to everyone.
